Nosara

Guiones Beach
Surfers from around the globe flock to Guiones Beach to ride its legendary waves, drawn by consistent swells and warm waters. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a novice seeking to catch your first wave,Guiones offers an exhilarating surfing experience for all skill levels.
However, during low tide you can enjoy the most beautiful tide pools that you would be able to enjoy a couple of hours before and after the low tide pick. If you are at Guiones, look for Baker's entrance and walk for 2 minutes to your left and you’ll find the two amazing tide pools, these ones are the most visited and easy to access.
Another entrance is “Guiones Sur”, here you will find the biggest tide pools in the area and from Monday to Friday there are barely people around. During the weekends it can get a bit crowded.
My favorite is in the last entrance to Guiones ( or first if you are coming from Garza Beach), you can easily get there by car, and walk to your left towards the rocks and end of the beach, there is a big tide pool with pink sand that the locals call “ Rosadita”, there even on holidays you can almost enjoy a private beach, breath clean salty air and enjoy the dance of birds that cross Guiones from north to south.
Barco Quebrado Beach
Playa Barco Quebrado, also known as Broken Boat Beach, is a hidden gem located along the Northern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, 20 minutes away from Nosara. Is a secluded beach and unlike some of the more popular beaches in the area, it offers visitors a quieter and more serene experience, ideal for those seeking to escape the crowds and immerse themselves in nature.
The beach is characterized by its pristine white sands, rugged coastline, and towering cliffs. The scenery is dramatic and unspoiled, with lush vegetation framing the shoreline and providing a stunning backdrop for relaxation and exploration.
One of the highlights of Playa Barco Quebrado is its fascinating tide pools and rock formations. At low tide, you can explore these natural wonders, discovering an array of marine life and enjoying the opportunity to snorkel and observe the coastal ecosystem up close.
Barrigona Beach
Barrigona Beach is another stunning coastal gem located near the town of Nosara on the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica. Like many of the beaches in the Nosara area, Barrigona is known for its secluded and pristine beauty. It's a tranquil haven that offers visitors a peaceful escape from the crowds, perfect for those seeking solitude and relaxation.
The beach boasts soft golden sands, fringed by lush tropical vegetation and swaying palm trees. The backdrop of verdant hills and rocky outcrops adds to the scenic allure of Barrigona, creating a postcard-perfect setting for beachgoers.
Like many beaches in Costa Rica, Barrigona is also a nesting site for sea turtles, including Olive Ridley, leatherback, and Hawksbill turtles. During nesting season, visitors may have the rare opportunity to witness these magnificent creatures coming ashore to lay their eggs, or see hatchlings make their way to the sea.
In low tide if you go to the southern beach side you can find little tide pools between the rocks where you can refresh and relax. Enjoy walking along till you get to an amazing “ private beach “ where you can breath peace and get captivated by the landscape. Totally postcard material.
Tips to enjoy a tide pool
Timing is Key: Plan your visit during low tide, when the tide pools are exposed and accessible. Check local tide charts or ask locals for information on the best times to visit.
Safety First: Be mindful of slippery rocks and uneven terrain around the tide pools. Wear sturdy, non-slip footwear to protect your feet, and watch your step to avoid accidents.
Respect Wildlife: Tide pools are delicate ecosystems teeming with marine life. Take care not to disturb or harm any plants or animals you encounter. Avoid touching or removing marine creatures from their natural habitat, and observe them from a respectful distance.
Bring Essential Gear: Pack essentials such as sunscreen, water, a hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun's rays. Consider bringing a snorkel and mask if you plan to explore underwater, as well as a camera or binoculars for wildlife viewing.
Explore Carefully: Take your time to explore the tide pools at a leisurely pace. Move slowly and gently to avoid stirring up sediment or disturbing marine life. Look closely at the rocks and crevices, as many fascinating creatures may be hidden in plain sight.
Observe Tidal Patterns: Pay attention to the ebb and flow of the tide as you explore the tide pools. Take note of how the water levels change over time, and be mindful of rising tides to avoid getting stranded or caught off guard.
Leave No Trace: Respect the natural environment by leaving the tide pools exactly as you found them. Take all trash and belongings with you when you leave, and avoid leaving behind any traces of your visit.
